What I learned and why

I learned how to play the three main chords of Knockin' on Heavens Door by Guns N Roses, on the guitar. I learned to start by putting my middle finger on the first string second fret, my pointer finger on second string, second fret. and my last two fingers on the fifth and sixth string. Then to strum all the strings. For the second chord, move the pointe finger to the fourth string second fret, the ring finger to the fifth string, third fret, then the middle finger to the sixth string, second fret. Now to strum the last four strings. The last chord moves the ring finger to the second string third fret, the middle finger to the third  string second fret, and the pointer finger to the  fifth string, first fret. Then strum all but the first string. I learned this song because I have always liked it and I have known it for a long time. I decided to ask my brother to teach me and he was more than willing. It was hard to play, but now I can say I know how to play the guitar.
