Someting New I Have Learned

Just recently, in My. Chapin's Adult Living class I learned about Spina Bifida and how to treat people with disabilities. A guest speaker came in who has Spina Bifida, the cause was the lack of folic acid when his mother was pregnant with him. Below the knees he has no feeling and it is very difficult for him to walk. He has had to overcome many obstacles because of this, such as driving. It is amazing how positive he was on life and how he would not want to change a thing. It was very heart breaking when he said that he was bullied during school and excluded because he was different. But someone's disabitlity does not define them. What I learned from this experience is "don't judge a book by its cover, instead of putting it back, open it up and read its story".
