High school can seem like a very scary place. Before you get here, you may hear many scary rumors about getting shoved into lockers and having your lunch money taken from you, but in reality high school is not that bad. You just need to remember a few rules to make sure your year goes by smoothly.
Rule number one, is to find out where all of your classes are at the freshmen orientation; or sometime before the first day of school. Make sure you do NOT ask an upperclassmen where to find your class. Upperclassmen will usually point you to the opposite side of the school, just for a laugh. If you forget to find your classes ahead of time, try checking one of the maps of the school posted by the field house doors, or by the main office. You could also ask a nearby teacher, or go to the office for help.
Rule number two, is do not stand in the middle of the hallway. Even if you are in your grade’s hallway, if some upperclassmen walk down, they will shove their way through, and that may end up in some sort of conflict. So if you accidently are stopped near the middle of the hallway and you see upperclassmen walking your way, just navigate your way towards the nearest wall, or lockers and there should be no trouble.
Rule number three, is try not to stand out for wrong reasons. If you are an underclassman, and you make a bad attempt to be noticed, this may end up poorly for you. Putting yourself out there is the first step to getting torn down, and some upperclassmen with leap at the opportunity to do that.
Rule number four, is to not preset your locker, and make sure you keep your combination a secret! There are many nosy people that walk through the high school. Although you don’t have to worry about people bullying you for your lunch money, if your locker is pre set and someone happens to open it and see your money, they might take it. All of your other belongings are also just sitting there up for grabs. So keep yourRule number three, is try not to stand out for wrong reasons. If you are an locker locked. Also, you may want to share your combination with some of your best friends or your significant other, but just remember that once you get to high school everything changes and the people you use to know as your best friends may become your worst enemies by the end of the very first trimester. Also, chances are, you and your boyfriend/ or girlfriend may get in a fight or break up, and then they have the power to abuse your items in your locker. So make sure your locker remains locked and your combination, a secret.
Rule number five is to work towards earning a high GPA. If you start out your high school experience by trying hard and getting good grades, then you should end up with a very good GPA. But if you do not care about your grades and blow off your classes’ freshman year, then your GPA will drop significantly. Once your GPA drops it is very hard to get back up and you only have one GPA to build off of for your entire high school experience. The classes you take later in high school will only get harder, so make sure you take advantage of the easy classes by making sure you are trying hard to keep good grades.
You see, high school really isn't that scary if you know what you are getting yourself into. If you follow these five rules, they will help to make your high school experience a lot easier and very enjoyable.
