Having a number other than one for a is ok too. Solving for x rather than setting the equation equal to y is a lot harder though, especially when a isn't equal to one.
But everyday in class I think I have it figured out by the end, then get home and start on the homework and am completely lost, and get into class the next day and not understand. It's like I'm starting at it anew each day, not completely from scratch but still not in a good way. It's slightly frustrating that I'm doing this, and can't seem to fully grasp and remember it.
